Served by the manager yesterday who is a rude ans patronising woman. She had no customer service skills and was more interested in gossiping about her colleagues, than serving customers. Very unprofessional. I ended up leaving empty handed as she had no idea what she was talking about. Will not be visiting again.
Order approx €400 of gear on their Irish domained website assuming my delivery would be coming from Ireland or the very least would not have to deal with customs from UK. After 2 weeks my order had not arrived. Contacted customer service to query and they blame their courier company and assured order would be with me ASAP. Roll on a week, I get letter from customs for an extra €150 for order. I swiftly contact customer service but 24 hours later no response. Would never buy from cotswold again.
The technology and support to help find the right fit for more expensive products (hiking boots in my case), the knowledge of the product range and other services of interest, the friendly and welcoming team are all things that Cotswold Outdoors do really well. The employee on the till also knew that if we were National Trust members (they do have some young members too...) we also qualified for a 15% discount which made a big difference. Overall I thought the experience was excellent and shows how valuable an in-person retail experience can be. One thing that could have made the experience slightly better would be having more stock availability (different boots in different sizes across the range) but I appreciate this is difficult to achieve across so many stores when selling online too.
A jacket I wanted to buy was out of stock in my local Cotswold Outdoor. The assistant said they had some in stock and would order it, but then the computer wouldn't let him, so successfully placed the order online. 4 weeks later the jacket hadn't arrived. I popped into the store and they took a look but couldn't work out what the problem was and suggested I call customer service on Monday as it's closed on weekends. Turns out that wasn't true - they are open weekends! The customer service rep couldn't work out what was wrong and said someone would investigate on Monday. Got an email on Monday blaming the jacket manufacturer (Rab) and was told sometimes it takes longer than usual (hmm). After another week I chased them on Twitter and was told they're now out of stock and so won't be delivering the jacket. They only told me this after I chased them. Their customer service is one of the worst I've experienced. They're quick to take your money and then leave you to have to deal with their order and stock management issues. Regarding Cotswold feedback. "only available with our supplier as we did not have any stock within our store or warehouse location" - That's not true. I was told the item was in stock in your Aberdeen store. "we did at this stage ask if you prefer an alternative product" - Yes, but as 4 weeks had passed you no longer had any items at the price point and size in stock. Perhaps if you'd told me this weeks before I'd have had more luck. The bizarre thing is that after telling me the item is not available and you won't get any more from the supplier you then went and added it back onto your website and are accepting orders for it. As a business you clearly don't no how to operate an online store, and your customer service is terrible,
The staff the products the knowledge shared easily, makes for happy shopping. If you need good proper outdoor items, clothing and equipment, go to Cotswolds first.
Excellent service at Guildford store. Charles was patient, courteous and very knowledgeable about the walking boot products. Went the extra mile in measuring feet and fully understanding what I want to use the boots for.

Twice in two weeks I visited the store, asking for and being offered advice by the brilliant team at Cotswolds in Windsor. The staff are experienced, knowledgable and generally there is someone on hand to offer a genuinely friendly service - as someone who had very little idea of what I wanted/needed, this was all much appreciated! Having seen a previous reply, it is a shame that I had not taken more names from my visits. Although I do recall an inspiring young woman who introduced herself on my first visit a week earlier, her name is Mai. As a result of two - what I would consider - successful visits, I was happy to come away with my first ever pair of walking boots and I am very much looking forward to putting them to good use on my first hike. Needless to say, I will be back for more supplies before then..
I made a complaint online in relation to a pair of hiking boots I purchased almost a year ago in the UK. I was advised to return them to a store in Dublin with a view to redress. The staff were incredibly helpful and professional from the moment the complaint was made in store, given that communication can be the issue in which a complaint really develops into something it isn't. I received prompt assurance that a replacement pair would be provided and redress completed within a week. That's how it should be done everywhere
Helpful service, got my feet measured and when the size I wanted wasn't available in store they were ordered online for me. Extra bonus was 15% discount as a National Trust member which is a significant saving.
Looking at backpacks, an assistant came up, gave advice & was extremely helpful & friendly. Having selected one I then asked after a good hiking top base layer for a friend giving a rough description of his size. I ended up buying one which turned out to be a perfect fit plus a couple of other odds & ends. Overall, a wide range of products, excellent service & very good value
My wife and I went for good walking sandals knowing there is a bewildering array of options online The young man in charge of footwear was pleasant and best of all knew the products he had. He gave us all the time we needed to try out various options and we decided on a pair that was perfect. WE did not buy the footwear at that point but tried several other similar shops. Trespass was one and the poor service there and in outer outlets in Belfast made up our minds to go back and buy the footwear we had selected.

Super customer service by knowledgable and helpful assistant downstairs in the branch off the Strand. He really went the extra mile - looking for hiking boots, I nearly bought a size too small and with his help went up a size and they are so comfortable. He didn’t rush me and told me to take them home and try them indoors in the evening for a few days. I did this and am very happy with these boots, and they won’t be coming back.
Service received from Ron in Cambridge branch was outstanding! He listened and was very attentive and came up with so many different options to make sure I got the perfect shoes to suit my needs. I was blown away by his customer service and recommended your shop to all my friends! Ron is a true asset to your store, he should be awarded!
I attended the Newcastle city centre store today wearing my worn road running shoes a little lost how they've worn down and whether I am wearing the right ones. I was a walk in customer and there was very limited shoes on display which was an instant negative. The prices were double than I expected in some ranges. There was only one member of staff on the floor plate and they were busy dealing with a customer doing a gait analysis so didn't want to disrupt this appointment. I hung around hoping someone else would appear however no one came. I tried on shoes not to my size as a result just to get a feeling for the trainer. The one member of staff available soon disappeared immediately after dealing with the unsuccessful gait analysis appointment. I was in the store over 20 minutes before I had the opportunity to ask a staff member about my current shoes and honestly wish I hadn't bothered. As a bus you wait for one and two come at once but they were too busy wanting to gossip between each other than attend to customers. I did pluck up the courage and asked for their opinion of my trainers and honestly it felt I was asking for a million pound question about my current shoes and their current state. I was made to feel like advise was only meant to be given if the staff were getting a sale at the end of it which is such a shame as had I been offered a gait analysis I would have happily paid for this and probably could have paid for shoes even though they were more expensive than the other well known sport shoe shop in Newcastle which I had to leave without service due to being far too busy to cope with customer demand. I walked out the store feeling so disappointed and deflated and won't return again. I won't be recommended the store either given the poor attitude of the staff member and the other member standing there looking at me like I had a third head.
My Meindl boots split, Ian was so knowledgeable and helpful. He explained why, he showed me what could be done to prevent it happening again. He exchanged the boots, threaded the laces differently and fitted a volume reducer. He advised me to use the conditioner regularly after washing. I now feel confident that my new boots will last. Thank you to Ian and the Branch Manager.
Rushden Lake shop drove a fair way to come here so pleased with service At least dozen pairs boots tried on super patient friendly staff, she helped find best boot for my bunion issue and chat about upcoming Everest base camp trip what we might find useful because of our minimal trail experience that hadn’t thought of like some walking poles so will be back nearer trip time to get rest of the kit here now worth the drive.
