I purchased a Schwalbe G-One Speed tyre that was unfortunately faulty and wouldn't hold pressure: the initial response from customer services was an email with basic advice on how to fit tubeless tyres (effectively suggesting I must have fitted it incorrectly). They clearly hadn't read my email explaining what was wrong - the tyre was leaking air from the centre of the tread through a manufacturing defect. I contacted them again and was advised to return the tyre for warranty inspection (at my own cost) and detail the fault on the returns form. I duly did that, and requested an exchange. Instead, Merlin refunded me the cost of the tyre (£36) but not the £3.39 cost of returning it (why do Merlin expect customers to foot the cost of returning faulty goods 🤷🏼♂️) and said my only option was to re-order a new one. In the meantime, the price had increased to £37.99... I contacted them again and was offered a voucher code for £3.39 to cover the return postage, which would have to be used when ordering a replacement at £37.99, plus an additional £3.95 postage (my original order was postage free as it was over £100 with a pair of disc rotors). So to be put in the position I should have been when buying a £36 tyre, Merlin wanted me to spend an additional £5.94. Hmmm... I've been a long-term customer of Merlin - the faulty G-One Speed was to replace a worn out one purchased from Merlin; it was fitted using tyre levers purchased from Merlin; inflated using an Airshot purchased from Merlin; and was filled with Stan's Race Sealant, again purchased from Merlin. Update Merlin have now refunded the £3.95 postage cost of reordering tyre as a 'goodwill gesture'. I've still having to pay £37.99 rather than the original price of £36, though. That additional £1.99 must be important to someone! Regardless of the sums involved, or my previous customer loyalty, should rectifying what is a straight-forward issue really be so difficult? Hey-ho. I'm away to ride my other bike (also shod with tyres bought from guess where 😀)
Always a pleasure to deal with
